What Parents Need To Know About Synthetic Drugs

July 2011 – The Lebanon Police Department was successful in passing a city ordinance prohibiting the possession, sale, delivery, transfer, or the attempt to possess, sale, deliver or transfer synthetic drugs, widely being used as “legal drugs”. The chemical composition in these substances mimic the effects of very dangerous drugs, such as marijuana, meth, cocaine and ecstasy. These drugs were ending up in the hands of our youth and causing irreversible damage and even death. This is an important step in an effort to stop this dangerous trend.

From left to right: Dispatcher Nate Beatty, Officer Brandon Payne, FTO Tim Kelley, Officer J.P. Tuggle – receiving a Police Excellence Award

On March 25, the four men pictured here were instrumental in handling a situation at 10 Head Homes after a caller made threats to kill officers upon their arrival. Officers Payne and Tuggle were responding to a harassment call, and they were advised by Beatty that the caller had made threats to kill them upon their arrival. On their arrival, the suspect stepped out and fired shots at the officers. Through careful communication, both officers were able to move to a cover position and a perimeter was set up. Through the efforts of FTO Kelley, and Beatty, the suspect was negotiated out of the residence and taken into custody.
