Property and Evidence

The evidence department has the responsibility of receiving, storing, releasing and maintaining security for all criminal evidence, seized, stolen and found property. All seized property, weapons and narcotics are packaged and stored in a secure evidence room until the case is concluded.

The effective investigation and prosecution of a criminal offender relies heavily on the careful and proper use of evidence. It is the responsibility of the evidence department to maintain the integrity of each item of evidence and its chain of custody. The careful safeguards in place ensure all property coming into their possession is processed in accordance with state laws, and departmental policies and procedures.

The Property and Evidence Department’s public service hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm. For information on retrieving personal items, please contact Detective Bonnie Wells at: 615-453-4322 to make an appointment.
