The Office of Community Engagement at the Lebanon Police Department is dedicated to strengthening the connection between law enforcement and the community we serve. Guided by our motto, "Protect with Courage, Serve with Compassion," we focus on creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for all. Our goal is to build trust and open lines of communication by engaging with residents, businesses, schools, and local organizations. Through various outreach initiatives, educational programs, and community events, we work to address concerns, promote public safety, and provide valuable resources. By actively listening to and partnering with the community, we strive to make a positive, lasting impact, ensuring that everyone has a voice in shaping a safer, more connected community.
Citizens' Police Academy (CPA)
The Citizens' Police Academy (CPA) offers an excellent opportunity for community members to gain an in-depth understanding of the various services, equipment, and personnel that make up their local police department. The CPA program is held annually in the spring and runs for eight weeks, with classes meeting once a week. The curriculum combines informative lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, providing a unique and engaging learning experience. There is no cost to participate in this program.
Youth Police Academy
The Youth Police Academy is a unique program, one of the few in the country, designed to give young people a better understanding of law enforcement. The goal is to help participants develop respect for police officers, build positive relationships, and possibly spark interest in careers in law, public service, or community work.
Based on our successful Citizens’ Police Academy, the Youth Police Academy is a week-long program that includes lectures, presentations, and hands-on activities. These sessions cover different aspects of law enforcement, teach leadership and teamwork, and highlight the importance of being a responsible member of the community.
The academy takes place during the summer break for the Lebanon Special School District and Wilson County School District. It runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Wilson County Fair Grounds. There is no cost to attend.
