Evidence

The evidence department has the responsibility of receiving, processing, storing, and maintaining the security of all criminal evidence, seized, recovered, and found property.

Items are packaged and stored in a secure evidence facility until the case is concluded, or the proper owner can be identified and contacted.

The effective investigation and prosecution of a criminal offense relies heavily on the proper handling and documentation of evidence. It is the responsibility of the evidence department to maintain the integrity of each item and its chain of custody, and to ensure the proper disposal or return of all items at the conclusion of each case. The careful safeguards in place ensure all property coming into their possession is handled in accordance with state laws, and departmental policies and procedures.

The Property and Evidence Department’s public service hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.

For information on retrieving personal items, please contact Evidence Custodians Sierra Luna or Benito Chavez at 615-453-4328 to make an appointment.
